Now that we live in Heber, we've started a tradition that we should have adopted a long time ago. We purchase a permit and cut down a tree. We have so much fun spending the day in the snow. This year we started by building an igloo because we couldn't pass up the good packing snow. We never actually finished it, but the kids had fun building anyway.
We also brought cross country skis and snowshoes this year, THANK HEAVEN! The snow was so deep that we wouldn't have been able to walk through it at all. As it was, we had to line up the snowshoe-ers to compress our trail, and then have those in just boots follow behind. At one point Lucas ans Sammy decided to take off across a field, only to be stuck up to Lucas's waist. Gabe had a blast on his skis, and was zipping around the place like he was the king. Madelyn and Gabe figured out a method to share the skis, and Madelyn loved hitching a ride while Gabe did all the work. While we were out tree hunting, we heard some loud bells and some laughing that sounded like Santa. Sammy loved that we got to hear Santa.
In the end we came home with a beautiful tree and a bunch of tired kids. After cutting the tree, we always head to Pizza Hut for dinner, which is one of may favorite parts of the day. No cleanup! We laughed enjoyed our dinner and then settled down to Elf at bedtime.
