Turtle racing is a pretty competitive sport in these parts, and definitely a highlight of the school year. Two of the teachers have turtles and each year they race to see who is fastest. Last year Madelyn was in Mrs. Hall's class and was so excited that they won!
This year Gabe had Mrs. Hall, and Carter was in Mrs. Mecham's class. They each had turtles and had a race at the very end of the year. Of course, what's a race without some stiff competition? The entire year the classes built up the competition through chants, letters to one another, and the 4th graders even made a movie!
Both boys were on pins and needles cheering for their respective champion. In the end Apollo (Mrs. Hall's turtle) beat Rocky (Mrs. Mecham's turtle) for the title. They even tried racing them for best 3 of 5 and 5 of 7, but Rocky just wasn't in the mood. The 4th graders were very gracious ad shared the popsicles for the winners with some very disappointed 1st graders.
